Fun Valentine's Dates

Are you stuck in a rut and can't think of anything to do for a date but the old dinner and a movie? Well, I did an internet search for you and came up with a list of alternative activities for a fun and different Valentine's for you and your significant other (S.O.).

1. A Bonfire

Snuggle up next to a fire and make s'mores. If you're close to a beach and can do it there, even better. Bonus points if one or both of you play the guitar and can sing love songs to one another.

2. Make your own chocolates or fudge

If this skill isn't in either of your wheelhouses, search the web for recipes or watch a YouTube video. Or better yet, ask Grandma. I'll bet she made her share in her day.

3. Ceramic or Pottery making

Hit up the local pottery making store and build a special mug for each other that can always serve as a reminder of your fun date.

4. Dancing

Nothing is more romantic than dancing. Real dancing, that is. If you don't know how, take a class together. If there's no place to go in your area, hang lights on a gazebo, pull our your I-Pod and do your own thing.

5. Ice Skating

If you don't have a rink near you, find a frozen pond or river. Even better.

6. A Trip to the Candy or Cupcake Store

Valentine's is all about the sweets, right? So if you're not up for making your own candy, go to a candy store and fill a bag with your favorite sweets. Or if you're lucky enough to have a specialized cupcake store near you, stop by and try their delicious concoctions. Ice cream parlors are also a fun option.

7. Go Rock Climbing

If you're an outdoor enthusiast and have your own equipment, do it for reals. Or for the tamer crowd, visit a rock climbing gym.

8. Visit a Museum

Whether you're into art or natural history, find a museum you can explore together. You might even learn something!

9. Themed dinner and movie night

A twist on the old classic, watch "Roman Holiday" while eating lasagna, or "Twister" with Aunt Madge's thick beef steak and a pile of mashed potatoes.

10. Roller Skating

Link arms and glide around the rink. It's sure to bring back memories of childhood.

11. Poetry Reading

If there isn't an official one in your area, go to the library and pick out poems from the masters and read them to each other in a quiet corner.

12. Shopping

Sometimes it's just easier to pick out a gift with your S.O. along. But if they don't like to shop, or you already have their gift, go to a mall and make it a competition to find the most ridiculous item. Or if your budget is tight, attend a flea market together and find crazy items.

13. Karaoke

Let your inhibitions go and sing sappy love songs to each other.

14. A Comedy Show

Go enjoy a night of laughs together.

15. A Relaxing Spa Day

These are my favorite. Nothing says "I love you" like being totally pampered.

There are a few ideas to get you started. Let your imagination run wild. I know many people are against Valentine's Day, but it's never a bad idea to show that special someone how much they mean to you, and enjoy a fun, romantic time together.
