Piece of Cake!

What's a wedding without the perfect cake? So how do you go about choosing the one that best reflects your personality and sense of style? This post will give you some hints about what's available and help you get the cake pin rolling.

Fresh Flowers

Fresh flowers are a lovely addition for a springy, romantic, or classy look. First tip - no poisonous ones! Next, here are a few ideas to keep the taste of the flowers from leaching into the cake: use floral picks, wrap the stems in floral tape, or dip them in food-safe wax. Another option is to use edible flowers like

Pansies, Day Lilies, Marigolds, Roses or Orchids.

Naked Cakes

Naked cakes are a thing for those who don't like all that thick buttercream frosting and fondant. Increase the filling between tiers and leave the layers exposed for a rustic look. Fresh flowers are a nice addition to these.

Classic

If you're a traditional kind of gal, go with a classic white cake with all the frosted swoops and swirls. Or use smooth fondant and doll it up with hand-painted florals.

Bohemian

For a Bohemian look, Naked Cakes work great for an earthy feel. Spruce it up with delicate floral wreaths and leafy vines.

Contemporary

Fondants can be smoothed and shaped into all sorts of geometric designs for a sleek, chic contemporary feel.

Western

Giddy-up, cowgirl, and lasso that cake with some jute and daisies. Try a pair of spurs for a cake topper (new, not used!)

Seasonal

If you don't have a particular style, take your cues from the season: pastels for the Spring, keeping it light and airy; fresh and bright for the Summertime, with yellows and blues; somber, earthy tones for Fall, with rich burgundies and oranges; frosty blues and white for Winter, or traditional Christmas red and green.

The options are endless! Have fun with it, and don't forget to choose your favorite flavor beneath all the glitz.
